In the year 2000, Ana Lucia Souza departed from Brazil, leaving behind the familiar warmth of home for the austere promise of The University of Mannheim in Germany. It was here, amidst the stark corridors of the Akademie des Tanzes, that she immersed herself in the distinguished performing arts program, setting the stage for a remarkable ascent. From the vantage point of an apprentice at Das Meininger Staatstheater in Meiningen, she swiftly rose to the role of soloist in the span of a single year.
By the early 2000s, Ana had secured a place with the storied Stuttgart Ballet. It was in this crucible of artistic excellence that she delivered performances of such grace and precision that she captivated audiences with the works of luminaries like John Cranko, Mauro Bigonzetti, George Balanchine, Hans van Manen, Glenn Tetley, William Forsythe, and Marco Goecke in which she often performed solo roles. Ballet took her across the globe as she danced on some of the most renowned stages.
The narrative took another turn as Ana moved from the opulent confines of Monaco, where she danced with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, to the pulsating cultural heart of New York City. Here, in the labyrinth of its vibrant arts scene, she reinvented herself as a filmmaker, producer, and journalist. At the esteemed Lee Strasberg Film and Theater Institute, she further honed her craft, while her work with prominent Latin American television networks—Globo, Rede TV!, and E! Entertainment—revealed yet another facet of her versatile talent. Fluent in German, Portuguese, English, French, and Spanish, and a naturalized American citizen, Ana’s journey is a testament to the unending quest for self-reinvention and artistic expression.
